Dredging Project Commences

Dredging Project Commences

Abell Point Marina dredging project is now underway with first testing being completed last Friday and a full schedule expected to start this week.

The dredging team have been working hard over the past three months to profile a dredging process that will effectively target high areas areas across the marina that have previously caused access issues on a low tide.  In targeting 20% of high areas across the marina, the dredging team believe that we can rectify 80% of the problem areas allowing greater access to berths for deeper draft vessels.

The dredging project will first target high areas in O/P arm, M/N arm, L arm and around the fuel wharf before scoping out a full maintenance schedule of the marina.  The project is predicted to last for 6 – 8 months with all dredge material being pumped into the retention pond to develop a community parkland for marina customers to enjoy with regular events planned for this area.

  1. That’s fantastic news! Due to our draft, we had to berth in the old part of the marina and found it very tight getting in and out. It will alleviate a lot of stress being able to use the western entrance and know we won’t ground our vessel. Congratulations on your upgrade – looks great!

Thanks Kerri. We are looking forward to the project and being able to better cater for a wider range of vessels and finally fully utilise all berths. Abell Point Marina

Hi Luke. Good to see the dredging getting underway. Are you including in the scope of works the area directly opposite Peninsula apartments where the catarmaran “Beach House” is berthed and also another hump a little further North of that area. Yachts regularly run aground on both of these areas.

      Hi Chris
We do have some priority areas as per the article, however we have marked out all problem areas across the marina and will address these areas over the duration of the project.
